Floral paintings that exude atmosphere and energy….bold, bright, works of art that have a 3-dimensional quality achieved by sculpting a paint-medium directly onto the canvas surface. These unique paintings, with multiple layers of transparent glazes and dry-brushed opaque strokes, are the work of Canadian artist, Deb Martin.
With a Masters Degree in Psychology, Debra left the field of health care a number of years ago to become a professional artist. She grew up watching her mother sketch and paint, enjoying a childhood surrounded by all things artistic. Largely self-taught, Deb has completed courses in Fine Art at Okanagan College, and has attended workshops and classes to continue to hone her talents.
As well as her widely collected floral images, Martin is known for landscapes characterized by dramatic skies and majestic trees, exploring what she calls, “those ethereal moments created by sudden changes in atmosphere….those moments after a heavy rain when the clouds begin to drift apart.” Equally charming are her “Bicycle Series”, the artist’s attempt to tell the story of a well-used, much loved bicycle whose dents and scratches speak of a life well-lived but full of continued promise and purpose, embracing the march of time.
Deb Martin’s work can be found in private and corporate collections across Canada, as well as in the United States, England and the Netherlands. Her work has been featured in the magazine “Absolut Okanagan” 2018/2019,
Debra Martin is currently living and painting in the Okanagan Valley.
