Violet was born and raised in Edmonton and moved to Vancouver to pursue a career as a graphic designer. In 1987, she graduated with honours from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and has been a partner in a successful graphic design studio for more than 20 years. A need for a new creative outlet and a change in direction led her to kiln-formed glass. Violet began working with glass in 2008 under the mentorship of Brock Craig at Craig Studios and has continued to develop her craft primarily through research and exploration. Violet has participated in a number of exhibitions in Canada and the US and was a finalist in Emerge 2010, an international, juried kiln-formed glass competition. She was the 2012 recipient of the BC Glass Arts Association Pilchuck Scholarship. ~ E X H I B I T I O N S ~ March 2010 E-merge 2010 ~ Finalist—E-merge 2010, juried kiln-formed glass competition/exhibition Bullseye Gallery, Portland, OR | Group Show August 2010 TRIO Envison Gallery, Vancouver, BC | Group Show ~ April 2011 Celebration of Spring 2011: A Fresh Start Deer Lake Gallery, Burnaby, BC | Group Show July 2011 Heat: Expressions in Glass North Vancouver Community Arts Council, North Vancouver, BC | Group Show ~ November 2011 Circle Craft: British Columbia Glass Arts Association Exhibit Vancouver, BC | Group Show October 2012 The Language of Shapes Deer Lake Gallery, Burnaby, BC | 2-Person Show S C H O L A R S H I P S August 2012 BCGAA Pilchuck Scholarship Pilchuck Glass School The Glass Buffet: Jane Bruce Stanwood, Washington
